Best phones I've ever heard |
I want to counter some of the negative reviews you might read on these headphones.
Yes, there are technical calculations and specifications to quantify any aspect of sound that you want, but when it comes right down to listening to music, sound is largely a matter of taste. I've owned many sets of portable headphones over the years, and these are just about the best I've ever heard. It might be helpful for you if I mention that I listen to many different genres, from jazz to classical to rock to pop-standard vocals to opera, and these Sennies render them all admirably and accurately. I purchased these primarily to listen to music ripped at a relatively high bitrate (192) on an MP3 player. The sound on these headphones is warm, natural, and uncolored, without over-emphasis on any segment of the audio range. They also happen to be quite comfortable to wear; they look darn good, too. And don't be put off by other reviewers' remarking that they're difficult to fold back into their carrying case: look at the diagram, and with a little practice, you'll get the hang of it, no problem.
The sound is so clear that I've heard details in the music I haven't noticed with other phones or even on my really great home speakers. These Sennheisers may just become my home headphones, as well as my portables. They're really that good.
Note that I don't listen to hip-hop, dance music, or any genre whose listeners tend to prefer heavy, thumpy, booming bass. The bass on these phones is clean and accurate, completely audible, and I don't hear any "holes," but these are not phones that accentuate bass at the expense of the rest of the tonal range. They're just very well balanced across the range. If you're a "bass junkie," you might want something else.
The combination of exceptional sound, the convenience of the protective hard-plastic case, and reasonable price makes these an excellent choice overall. I'm very, very pleased, and I'd say these are definitely worth a try. |

Good "phones - if they fit!?! |
Being something of an audiophile and a geek, when I got my ipod - finally! (Thank you to my gorgeous wife), I knew that I would be upgrading the headphones from the standard earbuds - and looking cool be damned. Having done mucho research via the web, I decided on either the PX 100 or the 200s. In the end, decided on the PX200 'cos I don't like disturbing other people.
So, haing been listening to them for a couple of weeks, I can share these observations. They are a huge step up over the standard 'buds - much bigger soundstage, less compressed sounding and a much less fatiguing mid range and treble. Then there is the bass response... So much has been written about these phones and their bass response. All I can say is - and bear in mind I listen to most of my music through a very tasty sounding Arcam cd player, Plinius pre/power amp combo - that the bass is as accurate and as powerful as I would have expected from a pair of headphones of this size. Accuracy, to me, is as important as power. Bass that is just "thump, thump, thump" adds nothing to my musical pleasure. The solid pound of a well reproduced kick drum, on the other hand, does. If, however, you cannot get these 'phones to fit properly on your ears, you will not get a decent bass response. While they do benifit from breaking in, as most good quality components do, if you cannot hear bass no matter where you postion them don't get them - they just don't fit.
They are comfortable, perhaps feeling a bit tight after a couple of hours, but the sound quality is very good. My only advice is listen to them first, or make sure you can return them if you cannot achieve a good fit, as the difference in sound according to fit is very noticable. Once, on, though, they don't shift. Recommended. |

I have a pair of the PX 100's which are AWESOME for their small size.
I bought these because they have the little vunyl earcups instead od the foam on the PX100's and I thought that would be better for use at the gym. It is, but the 200's have poor sound quality compared to the 100's (go figure!). Especially lacking in bass, which is where the 100's excel.
Get the PX-100's instead!!! |
