So far so good |
I recently got this DVD player in anticipation of using it on an up-coming vacation.
I've watched only a few movies on it, basically checking out the battery operation, which seems to last about 2-1/2 hours. The unit works off the charger/AC adaptor as well as the included cigarette lighter adaptor.
As far as the major functions go...picture is good, though sound is marginal with speakers but it's decent with included headphones.
The layout and functionality of the buttons on the unit are good, and the small-sized remote is handy though there are no volume controls.
The player comes with a composite cable (RCA plugs) to hook it up to a TV if desired, and it also has a mini S-Video port (not the big round plug with 4 pins - and no cord provided) if you are so inclined.
The undocumented AV in/out switch allows you to see your digital camera (and camcorder?) photos, too.
The blue screen and Coby logo come on when powered up, but if you fold the lid down (such as when playing CD's), a little pin is pressed down and turns off the display - thereby saving more battery power.
I never had a Coby product before, so I can not predict long-term reliability. It has a minimal warranty, but if it gets me through a vacation or two, I guess I'll be happy.
So far so good.

Good working and value for money product |
I am using it for few weeks now and it runs fine. Plays DVD (both NTSC & PAL), audio CDs, MP3 recorded on CD/DVD, DVD-R, picture CDs. I have also tried PAL VCDs. Every thing plays (provided you don't have a scratched disc, which can cause it to hang).
It is light weight but becomes bit heavier if you attach battery which snaps to the bottom of the player. Battery lasts for around 3 hours on full charge (reduce brightness if you want it to play longer). Battery can be charged while you are playing the unit or separately.
Quality of LCD and Colors are good. Buttons could be better. No volume control through remote (only mute is provided). Easy to hack it to region free. The headphones provided are poor quality plastic so better buy better ones. Mine broke after one use. car adaptor and univeral power adaptor (110/220V) are useful. I found its looks better than other cheap models available (like Cyberhome etc.).
Warranty is only 90 days, so I hope it lasts and works much longer than that. |

Great Find |
| I needed a inexpensive "pass the time" gift for my husband's upcoming surgery. This was everything he will need to pass the hours while stuck in bed, and it didn't break our budget. |
